Andrew Goodwin's Theory

Andrew Goodwin published a book called "Dancing in the Distraction Factory" in 1992 after doing some research about music videos.
He came up with a number of codes and conventions, a range of elements that a number of music videos have in common. He said that:

1. Music videos demonstrate genre characteristics (e.g.) stage performance in rock video routine)

2. There is a relationship between lyrics and visuals.
(Often illustrative but could amplify or contradict the lyrics)

3. There is a relationship between music and visuals.
(Often illustrative but could amplify or contradict the music)

4. Demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artist and the artist may develop motifs or iconography which recur accross their work. (visual)

5. There is frequently reference to notion of looking (screens with screens, telescopes, etc.) and particularly voyeuristic treatment of the female body.

6. There is often intertextual reference (to films, T.V programmes, popular culture and other videos)

Tanya Jiri Candidate Number: 8019

Hello and welcome to my blog. Within this blog, you will see the process of how I created my magazine and all of the other items in between, including my preliminary task as well as the times that I have talked about I first started using some of the software and other websites that I used to reach my complete product. You will also find some of the images that I used and the process of me editing them to suit the type of magazine I wanted. And the ups and downs of my experience of making the magazine. You will also find the ones that I didn't use and at the end there will be my evaluation, where I did my final evaluation of the magazine and how I've progressed throughout the entire making and planning of the magazine and other tasks.

My Evaluation

Change of Plans! lol Front Page

so at the last minute, I decided to change my front page and so far so go with a completely different picture... my front page is something like  a medium shot of my model with headphones on, with her looking straight into the camera. My front is sort quite simple, not giving away too much but at the same time it is still eye-catching. It's something that looks like a magazine called Clash, which mainly has a picture of an artist then not much writing around it so that's sort of what I was aiming for.
This is how it went on.... until I got my finished product.
So,here's the finished product.

My Main idea was for my front page to look like something I had seen on some of the front pages of Clash such as this one......

Other Pictures that I had considered using were these ones

I had eventually changed my picture to the one I have now because I believe that it stands out more and looks better as a front page than the other ones.

Contents Page

So right now I'm working on my contents page, and all I can say for now is so far it's been okay, i cant complain much since I'm sort of starting to get the hang of using Photoshop and i can now move things around and take things out without too much trouble. Right now, contents page has a range of colours, only two that are pretty bright but I've still decided to go with the calm look and not so much " in your face" so that it can still represent the genre that I've chosen. So here are a print screens of what I've been doing so far... at the moment I'd does look a bit dull but will see if I can add some more fancy stuff here and there lol

Actually I ended up changing my mind. This is because my first content spage didn't really have much up there plus it wasnt exactly going with the theme that I was originally going for. So here's my final Conents Page.

Friday 23rd March 2012

I did have everything up and blogged about my first attempt of making tghe front page, until it all got deleted. Sad times. But anyway on Tesday 20th March I took my pictures with my model and we took many different pictures, indoor and outdoors so that when I started making the magazine I would have a wide variety of pictures to choose from. I had started doing my front page but then I had changed my mind and decided to chnage the picture.
From this....
To this one. I did this because I thought about how much space at the left side of the magazine plus more space to write information. I will probably use the first picture a little bit later in the magazine but for now I will stick with the second one.
